Meet Ella Johnson, 2019 graduate of Bozeman Senior High School and member of CtK. A little about Ella, during high school she was involved in activities that included Leo Club, Model UN and French. She is an accomplished pianist and we have enjoyed listening to her play during several worship services these past years. Ella has also spent her time volunteering at the Bozeman public library and working at the Museum of the Rockies. After graduation, Ella will be attending Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. She is interested in studying in the College of Business and Economics and in international studies. Ella has volunteered as a projectionist for the tech team while attending CtK and has been an active member of the youth group. She would like to thank the congregation for all their support and encouragement for the youth program over the years. Her favorite memories include attending Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp every summer for six years and also meeting so many amazing people at CtK. During worship, Ella's favorite song in the liturgies is "As the Grains of Wheat." I bet we will be thinking of Ella the next time we sign it together! Join us in praying for Ella as she begins the next phase of her life attending college outside of Montana. We pray that God will watch over her and continue to richly bless her life. The Montana Synod Assembly is underway. Happening now: CtK LPA John Sheppard is providing the report of the synod's Nominating Committee for positions other than bishop. John is a member of the Synod Council.
Meet Frank Harney, CtK's newest staff member and soon to be graduate of Bozeman Senior High School! Frank was born in St. Paul, Minnesota but was moved to Bozeman, Montana when he was just a few months old which means he has lived in Bozeman and been a member of CtK for nearly his entire life! During high school, Frank has been an avid participant in the band program, playing the saxophone in the Symphonic band, Jazz band, Pep band, Marching band and Hawks Night Live. He was also involved with the Biomedical Science program and was a member of the Health Occupation Students of America club. After graduation, Frank plans to attend Montana State University where he will pursue a Pre-Med track in connection with the Cell Biology and Neuroscience major. In addition to his new position as the CtK custodian, Frank has also been an involved volunteer! He has spent summers helping with Vacation Bible School, running projection for the tech team, acting as an assisting minister and helping as a song leader during youth group. He has also volunteered at youth events such as the rummage sale and the potato bar and auction. We are also blessed that he has shared his musical talents and gifts with the congregation during worship! Frank's favorite memory of CtK involves all the time spent crammed into small spaces trying to hide while playing "sardines" during Wednesday night youth group (we need more details - so be sure to ask him). His favorite hymn is "Open the Doors" and he loves singing the Holden evening prayer. We would agree those are both pretty awesome! Frank stated that CtK has been an outstanding faith family that has been there for him and supported him throughout his entire life. He would like to thank all the members of CtK for the great experiences, shared knowledge and for being an integral part of his life over the past 18 years. When you see Frank around CtK, please take a moment to congratulate him on his graduation and to thank him for being a blessing to CtK! Meet Garrett McCauley, CtK member and soon to be graduate of Bozeman Senior High School! Garrett has spent much of his extra time during high school involved with DeMolay as well as the CtK Youth Group. At CtK, Garrett can often be found serving behind the scenes as a member of the tech team running the projection system during worship services. Garrett's favorite memory of CtK Youth Group was his trip to Houston to the ELCA Youth Gathering. Seeing and being with so many youth of the same faith was an amazing experience that he said will stick with him for his entire life. Garrett is blessed to be a member of CtK which he was quick to describe as a "family forged together by faith." When asked about his favorite hymn, Garrett quickly replied with "Sanctuary," a beautiful hymn indeed! After graduation, Garrett will be attending Montana State University where he will pursue a degree in Pre-Med. His long term goal is to become a cardiac physician. Garrett was recently honored as the recipient of the 2019 Gerald I. Erickson Memorial Scholarship at CtK. Please join us in congratulating Garrett on his many accomplishments as well as his service to CtK and the community. More than half of all Americans will be affected by a mental illness or disorder at some point. As part of the ELCA, CtK recognizes that the suffering of patients, caregivers and families is profound. The 2012 ELCA Social Message, "The Body of Christ and Mental Illness," says, “Once mental illness has emerged, life will never be the same. The ELCA as a church commits to accompanying you as families and caregivers with honest, hopeful yet realistic, and prayerful companionship.”

Meet Maya Moody and join us in congratulating her on her upcoming graduation from high school! Maya was born in Bozeman and has lived in Montana all her life. Maya will be completing her high school education and graduating from Petra Academy on May 31st. Outside of school, Maya enjoys performing ballet, playing music, painting, and going on outdoor adventures with her loving family. After her graduation, Maya plans to attend Montana State University to pursue a degree in Nutrition Science. Maya states that she has a deep appreciation for the loving community of CtK as well as their caring support of her music. You may have been blessed to hear her play her harp during worship services at CtK in the past. Maya's favorite bible verse is Psalm 13:5-6, "But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord's praise, for he has been good to me." as it reminds her of Christ's abundant goodness in her life. Maya would like to invite everyone to her Senior Music Celebration on May 19th (this Sunday) at 2:00 at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. If you see Maya at worship, please be sure to congratulate her on her graduation and thank her for sharing her gift of music with us in worship. It's Mental Health Month!
CtK folks! During the adult forum (9:00am tomorrow), spend some time with your very own CtK Church Council getting an update from the first part of the year, and then dive into discussions on how our newest neighbor, Bozeman Gallatin High School, may intersect with our mission and vision. To prepare for this conversation, please pray and discern if we are being called to action, and if so, how might we serve them and the community surrounding us. (Teaching Sunday School? Council VP Megan Vincent will be happy to talk with you after worship!)
